Day Sixty

Bike

I had a 2:45 bike today and I wanted to include a good climb since the sprint tri I will be doing next weekend states that the bike is 'very tough...The first six miles are entirely uphill'  yikes!  Ryan Melissa and I went for a ride.  My legs were still tired, but manageable.  Ride was fine out to the climb, I even felt good on the climb but I did have my ass kicked by both Ryan (which I would expect) and Melissa (who has not really ridden that much but is a tough girl, so I was not entirely surprised.  I think she has a competitive mental toughness that I can only admire from afar).  But as I said I felt good and that is what matters.  Even though I was slow I was able to get up the climb and not blow out my legs.  By the time the ride was over I was happy to get off the bike.  My legs felt fine all evening...pretty happy with that.

Day Fifty-Nine

Swim-Run

I have woke up at 440 the last two mornings to get my exercise in.  I could not do it today.  I missed my swim.  I thought I would be swimming on Sat, so I rationalized missing my swim today thinking I would just tack it on tomorrow, but my plans for tomorrow fell through.  I feel bad that I did not swim, but being able to sleep an extra hour was really nice and needed.  It was good that I did sleep that extra hour because I worked with 6th graders in PE today.  I needed all the patients that I could muster up.  I can handle really rough kids in schools that do not even give me a way to enforce rules, but 6th graders outside playing kickball is not for me.  They are too young, wild and I do not interact well with younger kids.  It was a difficult day at work.

After I got off I had to run to the city and then go by the grocery store.  When I got home it was 700 - I still had a 50 minute run to do and I had to clean the house.  My legs were beat and the run was difficult.  I ran the same route on Wednesday and it felt great then, but today it was hard.  A spot I hit at 38 minutes Wednesday I hit at 48 minutes today, my feet were just dragging.  But I did it.  Thank goodness I am on a schedule because there is no way in hell I would have done that run today if it was not in my schedule.  My house only got a quick clean up, I was tired so it became less important.

Day Fifty-Eight

Bike to Work Day!

This made getting my bike in easy.  I just drove over Devil's Slide (too dangerous to ride)  and rode the rest of the way into work.  That combined with a little extra detour on the way home rounded out my hour and a half.  I also thought that it was a good example to the students, but of course no one in Half Moon Bay was aware of it being bike to work day.

On my way in I was going to stop at the rest station that is set up for people riding their bikes to work.  But I chickened out.  I did not feel like I was enough of a cyclist to stop.  This is ridiculous and speaks to my insecurities.  It is ridiculous because this is a day everyone is encouraged to ride their bike, people are encouraged to get out on their bikes for the first time in years.  But my ego thought I was not enough of a cyclist to be part of it.  I do ride three days a week, but that was not enough in my mind.  I was a big chicken.

Day Fifty-Seven

Swim/Run

I swam at 5.  I did not want to go.  Ryan had said last night that I will not struggle with the swim in my triathlon so that was in my head.  I thought maybe my swim is strong enough that I can sleep in.  But I got up 4:40 and headed to the pool.  My workout was a little longer than I anticipated (this week he added seven 75 yard sprints) so I did not get to my eight laps of kicking.  I had to get out to get ready for work so I was forced to cut it short, plus I was happy not to kick.  It is demeaning to have to kick with a kick board for eight laps.  I feel like such a lamo, going soooo slow.

Ran this afternoon - 38 minutes. Each time I run this loop by the house my watch timer stops.  This is the timer/stopwatch that I use on all my runs and when I swim - and it always works great.  The only time I have problems with it is when I go through this little bermuda triangle.  Every time around the same spot the timer stops.  It has happened the last three times I have done this run, but not during any of the other routes that I take.  Very strange.  If I go missing run down Oddstad to Rosita and look for me at the 12-15 minute mark.  But if the triangle really has me chances are I will not be found.  Maybe I should just get a new watch.

Day Fifty-Six

Bike

Sat on the trainer for my 1:15 ride.  I had five 5 minute hill climbs.  I felt good, stronger than I have in a few weeks.  When I was done and showered I quickly put my 2XUs.  Right now I will do anything to keep this feeling of fresh legs.

Day Fifty-Five

REST

The last few rest days I have had to work and then go to my class in the evening.  This leaves no yoga time.  It actually does leave yoga time - I am home for 45 minutes before I take off for class.  But I just sit on the couch and watch Oprah.  I need to be off my feet and relax.  I am sure I would feel better if I did the yoga, but I skipped it.  I know, bad decision, but leaving the house at 630 am and getting home at 10pm I am lazy and take a break the 45 minutes I am home.

Day Fifty-Four

Swim/Brick Workout

Woke up and jumped on the trainer (1 hr) then ran to the pool (20 minutes) and got in a swim (2000 yds).  The Mowbray Triathalon!  My shoulders were surprisingly tired as I swam.  I guess I use them more than I would think as I run and bike.  FINALLY I had a good day of training.  I feel revived and happy that I had a recovery week.  This happened last recovery week as well, I was tired the whole week, but by the end I felt great.  Yeah! A bit of energy has returned.
