Day Fifty-Three

Bike

This is not a fun week.  Melissa (who is doing the Auburn tri with me) joined Ryan and me on the ride.  We were planning to ride for 1:45.  We went out Canada, did a little loop and came back to the car at 1:25. I was the only one really keeping track of time.  If I were alone I would have gone out on the road for ten minutes then turned around to complete my time.  Melissa seemed to be doing fine, great in fact, but she has not been riding much.  I used her as an excuse in my mind.  I said to myself 'She probably does not want to go out and back to complete my scheduled time.'  (She is super competitive and probably would have been happy to do it) so just did 125, I did not finish what I was scheduled to do.  I AM SO TIRED I just needed a break on my recovery week.  I have also need to drink on my recovery week.  I had a bad day on Thursday (sad that Rheana is leaving and I am taking it out on Ryan and we have fresh mint) so allowed myself to have a mojito.  Friday Ryan brought home a bottle of wine (to make up for the nothing that I was upset with him about on Thursday).  And today we celebrated Rheana's new job.  I only had one drink.  I am breaking all my rules this week.

Day Fifty-Two

Friday - Run/Swim

This is another late update...writing on 5/11

These days sucked. I was tired did not want to write, workout or get out of bed.  I was beat.  My legs were tired and were the first thing that I felt or thought about each morning.  But I did fulfill my commitment on all of these day.  It was terrible, but I did it.

I swam early.  That was fine, check check off the list.  Ran in the evening with Ryan, he had to listen to me complain the entire time.  Not fun.  Every step was a struggle.  I ran exactly my 35 minutes, to the second.  I was hating every step and watching the stopwatch.  The second I saw it flip to 35 minutes...STOP... I am not running another step.  Walked the rest to the car.

Day Fifty-One

Late update writing on Tuesday 5/11

Thursday I did the bike.  Hmmmm  I don't remember if I did the trainer or the road.  I think I went out Canada road.  Yeah I parked at the park and ride so I would have a climb back to the car.  Oh yeah, the ride was awful...painful.  I am going to stop writing and try to start forgetting it again.

Day Fifty

I swam in the bay with Rheana.  It was nice to have company and it was nice to get in the water and it not be freezing outside.  It was a slow day, the teacher had us working on skills which may be fine if I was wearing a wetsuit, but just sitting and treading water in the cold water caught up to me.  As we made our way to what I thought was our last stop we traveled through a really cold patch of water.  The water in the bay has very strange pockets of really warm water and then cold spots.  I always think I am swimming through someones pee when I go through a warm spot...but I guess it is just the way the water is.  This cold patch I went through was too much for me.  As the teacher explained that we would do this last little triangle and head back in (remember I thought we were already heading back in) I just pointed to the shore and let her know I was too cold and needed to head in.  Of course she was fine with this.  She just told me to sprint the last few meters so I would warm up.  I took her advice.  I thought I had a ways still to go and I look to my side and Rheana is standing next to me.  I had literally swam all the way in.  I stood up and the water was below my knees.  Good thing I saw Rheana as I took a breath otherwise I would have sprinted INTO the shore.  Rheana said she did this on her Alcatraz swim, she got mud all over her face.  I was just trying to get the hell out of the cold water.  I had a good run in the morning before the swim, just around the neighborhood about 5 miles.

Day Forty-Nine

Bike

This is a recovery week.  Thank god.  As I have said before, recovery weeks are not as great as they sound.  For example my ride today goes from being 1:20 to being 1:10, not much of a change, but since I am tired, I will take any break I can get.

I did my 1:10 ride with 9 x 1 minute sprints today on the trainer.  It was hell.  I did not want to be on the bike I just wanted to be napping.  I did it...that is all...no extra effort...the goal was just to finish today.

Day Forty-Eight

Rest Day

I look forward to these days all week, but now that it is here I wish I was running not resting.  But I will rest.  I know my legs need a break.

Day Forty-Seven

Swim Run

I was going to go out for a swim at aquatic park before meeting with a friend at her pool.  But since I am still feeling sick, I did not think putting my body through the stress of the cold water was a good idea.  So I skipped out on that and just met Melissa (she is doing the Auburn tri with me) at her pool.  We went over some swimming skills and then swam.  I did not get in my full workout, but as I said I was not feeling well so feel fine that I got anything done in a pool.

I ran in Santa Cruz- great nice beautiful run.  Felt great and Samara had a blast.  Ran about an hour.  I am still using my Nike Free shoes and my foot felt great.
