Day Twelve

Headed out for a weekend with Tom and Heidi, so had to get my first brick workout done early.  Brick workouts are a bike with a run immediately after.  Since I have been stuck on the trainer all week I decided to do a Spinerval video so at least this third spinning workout of the week would have some structure.  Hillacious was the only one that fit my 60 minutes, so that is what I did despite the intimidating name.  Did fine with the bike but that run after - only 20 minutes was very difficult.  Felt stiff and awkward. I do not know how I am going to be ready for this in just 18 more weeks, just trusting this program.  I guess if I think about it, this workout would have been much more difficult two weeks ago.  So slowly improving.

Day Eleven

Run Swim Day
Early 445 wake up call to the pool - 300 warm up, 25 x8 drills set, 100 x8 25 hard 25 easy, 25 x8 kicking, 300 cool down. Felt great once I woke up all the way.  It took longer than I planned so was running late to get to work, still was there about 30 minutes early, but traffic is so finicky it is hard to trust leaving that late.

After work had a nice visit and coffee with Rheana and then headed out for a run.  Got my 40 minutes in.  Feeling so much better with running, actually enjoying it some.

Day Ten

Oh what a day.  Left the house at 630 to get to school.  Had someone cover my advisory period so I could meet with an attorney about what to do with our condo - it is 44% underwater so we need some advice on what is the best way to proceed.  Met with attorney at 230 in Santa Cruz.  Talked with Ryan's parents a bit afterwords, then headed home.  Took the dog for a walk.  Then finally - at 830 got to get my ride in - 50 minutes on the trainer, just base miles.  It filled the requirement, but not much more.

Day Nine

Swimming/Running
I am not teaching A block so I got to swim at the 6:00 hour instead of 5:00 so I was thrilled.  300 warm up, 25 x8 drills set, 100 x6 base intervals, 25 x8 kicking, 300 cool down.  Nice way to start the morning.  Bought my 20 swim pass, so I feel committed...now I get a call if the pool is closed...I am on the list.  I feel like I am part of Terra Nova Swimming now!

I bought Nike Frees 7.0 on my way home.  They are pink, ridiculous!  I did my running at the gym  40 minutes 30 sec sprints x8.  Normally I try to match my treadmill runs with Oprah or Ellen, but school is early release on Wednesday so I watched CNN and listened to music.  Felt good, knees were better in the frees.  For the last ten minutes I tried leaning more forward and keeping a faster pace.  Overall one of my better runs.

Day Eight

This day started off bad and keep getting worse.  After one of my classes two boys, one from my class, got in a big fight right outside of my classroom.  Thank goodness I did not see it until it was broken up because that would have put me in such a hard position - do I try to break up a fight when the students are much bigger than myself??  Also on my mind is that I am subbing long term because a teacher tried to break up a fight and then the kids turned on her - Or do I watch these kids hurt each other? But thankfully I did not have to deal with that.

After school I went to burn off some steam on the bike.  It was really windy but I decided to ride anyway...good for me.  I got my bike out and the chain was stuck.  It has only done this once before and I find it impossible to fix.  So I packed my bike back up and headed home to ride the trainer :P  thinking that once I have the bike on the trainer I will be able to figure out how to fix the chain.  But that did not work, I had to wait for Ryan to come home and fix it, which took him about 10 minutes so I am not completely incompetent.  I was about in tears, trying to get my workout in but not being able to start it until 6 or so.  As I did the trainer I watched The Cove.  An excellent movie, really opens your eyes, but would not recommend it if you are already ready to cry.  What a mess.  But I got my workout in 1 hr with 20 sec sprints x7.  Mission accomplished.

Day Seven

Rest Day!  These knees need this break!  Not much time to rest as I am leaving the house at 630 am to teach and not getting home until 10 pm because I have a class in the evening.  If I had to train today it might just do me in, so I am very happy that I did not have to wake up any earlier to get training in this morning.

Day Six

Started day by going to Slide Ranch again to take some more pictures.  Got there around 730, took my pictures and headed back to my car.  But as I passed those cute little goats I saw Friday I noticed that it was feeding time.  I decided to stay around and watch.  They were adorable jumping for no reason, running in circles, getting head butted by the little lamb in the pen.  Just as I was done enjoying them and ready to head back to the car, the guy that was feeding them let them out for me to play with.  So there I was at the cute little farm, over looking the ocean with six week and a half old goat crawling all over me.  You know they wag their tales when they are happy, just like dogs.  Great way to start any day.

Headed to Sava Pool in SF.  Great facility, nice locker rooms, pools was clean, indoors but surrounded by glass so really bright, even one of those spinners to dry my suit after.  Jumped in swam a few laps but unfortunately had at least ten other people, all men,  join my lane.  It got really slow and annoying.  One guy doing the kick board while another did butterfly and a eight year old kid doing pull...it just was not working.  The plan was to warm up 300 yards, swim 1200, cool down 300.  I just did the warm up 300 and 1100 yards.  Once people in the lane next to me started yelling at each other I got fed up and hopped out.  Sanity is better than those last 400 yards.

Came home and ran with the dog.  Knee was really bothering me so cut that short as well.  NOT GOOD!!  Ran for about 40 minutes but needed to run for 50.  Good think I rode longer yesterday.  Less guilt.

Change of plans.  I am allowing myself wine on Sundays.  Gives me something to look forward to and it is the evening before my rest day so it makes sense, right??
