Day Sixty-Four

Swim/Run

Swam in the am with Ryan.  This was not the best workout because I tended to talk and take longer breaks than I should have...how can I catch my breath after a 'pushing it' 200 yds and talk in 45 seconds.  I wasted so much time that I could not finish my full workout.

Run was fine, 40 minutes around the neighborhood.

Next few days are going to be out of wack.  But Sunday I have my first real tri....

Day Sixty-Three

Bike

Just rode the bike on the trainer. 1:20 with five 3 minute pushing it 3 minutes rest.  Not really that exciting, not really that bad.

Day Sixty-Two

Swim/Run

This is my make up day.  I skipped out on Sunday and this is my day to get those workouts in.  I swam in the morning.  I have never swam on a Monday and I hope not to do it again.  I like things neat and orderly.  Well on Monday mornings in the pool you swim without lane lines.  This makes no sense to me.  People cannot follow the line on the bottom of the pool, we need lane lines.  There were swimmers all over the place.  It actually allowed fewer people to swim because it was so disorganized.  People were switching lanes, swimming perpendicular to the lines, it was a mess.  WE NEED LANE LINES.  When I asked if this is how it is ever Monday, they told me it was.  I would much rather be in open water where you assume you will not always swim straight than in a pool without line that you are suppose to swim straight in.  I want to assume that I was swimming straight, how hard can it be, but I am sure everyone thinks that everyone else is the crazy zig-zag swimmer.  Madness....I will not swim in that pool on Monday ever again.  I cannot start my day with that kind of chaos.

Run - I did not feel like running, but it ended up being fine.  I ran for an hour and a half with a long climb (160 meters over a mile and a half).  Samara got attacked(ish) by a dog who was aggressive but the owner just had knee replacement so when her dog pulls she said she 'just has to let him go.'  Maybe she should not be walking her aggressive dog.  At least she mentioned they are in training.  So there was Samara cowering, tail between her legs, hovering somewhere between standing and laying down screaming for help, for fear, for doggie angels, maybe for the Big Dog to rescue her...I am not sure for what but she was screaming loud.  I had to take the leash of the other dog and walk him back to his owner.  My little dog was fine, just scared and pulling me for the next few miles, hair on her back standing up and tail between her legs at every dog sound that occurred.

When I got home I tried my new POM Recovery drink.  I was exhausted from my run and must have misread the directions. I made it too strong and within minutes I was in the bathroom, head in the toilet for at least four rounds.

Day Sixty-One

Swim-Run

The day is all out of wack.  We watched the Tour of California in Sacramento so I did not swim.  I was planing to come home and run and then swim tomorrow.  But when we got home at 715 and I had an hour and a half run Ryan recommended that I count today as my rest day and do today's scheduled training tomorrow (which was a scheduled rest day).  Sounds good.  This week is a mess anyway.  Thursday Friday and  Saturday we will be backpacking so the training will not be as scheduled.

Day Sixty

Bike

I had a 2:45 bike today and I wanted to include a good climb since the sprint tri I will be doing next weekend states that the bike is 'very tough...The first six miles are entirely uphill'  yikes!  Ryan Melissa and I went for a ride.  My legs were still tired, but manageable.  Ride was fine out to the climb, I even felt good on the climb but I did have my ass kicked by both Ryan (which I would expect) and Melissa (who has not really ridden that much but is a tough girl, so I was not entirely surprised.  I think she has a competitive mental toughness that I can only admire from afar).  But as I said I felt good and that is what matters.  Even though I was slow I was able to get up the climb and not blow out my legs.  By the time the ride was over I was happy to get off the bike.  My legs felt fine all evening...pretty happy with that.

Day Fifty-Nine

Swim-Run

I have woke up at 440 the last two mornings to get my exercise in.  I could not do it today.  I missed my swim.  I thought I would be swimming on Sat, so I rationalized missing my swim today thinking I would just tack it on tomorrow, but my plans for tomorrow fell through.  I feel bad that I did not swim, but being able to sleep an extra hour was really nice and needed.  It was good that I did sleep that extra hour because I worked with 6th graders in PE today.  I needed all the patients that I could muster up.  I can handle really rough kids in schools that do not even give me a way to enforce rules, but 6th graders outside playing kickball is not for me.  They are too young, wild and I do not interact well with younger kids.  It was a difficult day at work.

After I got off I had to run to the city and then go by the grocery store.  When I got home it was 700 - I still had a 50 minute run to do and I had to clean the house.  My legs were beat and the run was difficult.  I ran the same route on Wednesday and it felt great then, but today it was hard.  A spot I hit at 38 minutes Wednesday I hit at 48 minutes today, my feet were just dragging.  But I did it.  Thank goodness I am on a schedule because there is no way in hell I would have done that run today if it was not in my schedule.  My house only got a quick clean up, I was tired so it became less important.

Day Fifty-Eight

Bike to Work Day!

This made getting my bike in easy.  I just drove over Devil's Slide (too dangerous to ride)  and rode the rest of the way into work.  That combined with a little extra detour on the way home rounded out my hour and a half.  I also thought that it was a good example to the students, but of course no one in Half Moon Bay was aware of it being bike to work day.

On my way in I was going to stop at the rest station that is set up for people riding their bikes to work.  But I chickened out.  I did not feel like I was enough of a cyclist to stop.  This is ridiculous and speaks to my insecurities.  It is ridiculous because this is a day everyone is encouraged to ride their bike, people are encouraged to get out on their bikes for the first time in years.  But my ego thought I was not enough of a cyclist to be part of it.  I do ride three days a week, but that was not enough in my mind.  I was a big chicken.
